In the opinion of some industry insiders (and outsiders!), the Sky-dweller is the ultimate luxury travel watch, and there are good arguments for this viewpoint. Since it’s launch in 2012, the Sky-Dweller has impressed a lot of people with it’s advanced technology that many people don’t realise until delving into the complexities of the model.

The watch here is the Reference 336933-0009, the Steel and gold / whitish-silver dial version with the upgraded movement which came out in 2023, featuring several improvements over the original calibre. With the amount of time and money Rolex would have spent on R&D before the original Sky-Dweller, I am surprised there were enough improvements over 10 years to warrant a new movement, but that’s Rolex for you I guess!

Despite obvious styling cues true to the Rolex formula, the Sky-Dweller is different from any other model. As well as featuring quick time setting, true GMT functionality, and a discrete month indicator it is an annual calendar (requiring adjustment once per year at the end of February), and the typically fluted bezel hides the “Ring Command System”, a mechanism to switch between setting functions.
